Module 7
Education on policies and ethics through agri-food field trips
The module presents a project on food education in schools that aims to include local (zero-mile) products in school canteens to promote healthy and balanced nutrition. It demonstrates how guided farm visits to understand the origins of the products, their history and connection to the local area, and educational workshops covering various school subjects, strengthen the awareness of young consumers and their families, giving value to typical products.
The module also highlights the importance of social farming activities, a model that integrates agricultural production with social, economic, and health objectives, aimed at supporting people with disabilities or those in vulnerable situations. Finally, the module introduces food and biodiversity communities of agricultural and food interest as tools for protecting, enhancing, and designing rural identities, fostering ancient knowledge and skills on food production, and encouraging the purchase of agricultural and food products locally.
